How Internet Contests and Awards Work in 2025-26 (Canada)

For the 2025-26 soaring season (October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026), Canadian pilots will have two main ways their flights are scored on WeGlide, the international online soaring platform. This is a transition year: both formats will run side by side, and awards will recognize results from either contest. 

1. Uploading Flights 

• All flights are uploaded to WeGlide. 
• Each flight is automatically scored in two contests: 
• WeGlide Free (the familiar OLC-style) 
• "SAC Decentralized Soaring Contest" (SAC-DSC) (the new international ruleset). 
• Note - this is the temporary, unofficial name. 

2. Contest Types 

WeGlide Free - Best 5 flights 

• The scoring program selects up to six legs from your flight to maximize distance. 
• Adds the better of two possible area bonuses: FAI triangle (+30%) or out-and-return (+20%). 
• This system rewards flying far, with minimal planning required. 

SAC-DSC ("DMSt" Rules) - Best 5 flights 

• Based on the international standard used in Germany, Australia, USA, etc. 
• Offers bonuses for declared and completed tasks (+30%) and for classic shapes: 
• - Triangles and quadrilaterals (+40%) 
• - Out-and-return (+30%) 
• - Straight distance flights (+30%) 
• - Multi-lap tasks (+20%) can also be declared, which helps in areas with restricted geography. 
• Undeclared flights are still scored: the system automatically scores the best shape+bonus or the best four legs from your track. 
• Pilots can use the WeGlide Task Planner to preview scores before flying. 
• Tasks may be declared directly on WeGlide or in the flight logger/FLARM, with online declarations taking precedence. 

3. Awards (Canadair, BAIC, 200 Trophies) 

• In 2025-26, awards will be given to the highest scores from either contest. 
• If one pilot wins both contests, they receive the trophy outright. 
• If different pilots top each contest, the award is shared. 
• The separation between pure gliders and motor gliders is suspended for 2025-26. 
• The main contest leaderboards will be on WeGlide, and detailed trophy standings will be tracked on a leaderboard on the SAC website. 

4. Transition Season 

• 2025-26 is a trial year to allow pilots and the Sporting Committee to learn and evaluate. 
• After the season, SAC will decide whether to continue or adjust for 2026-27. 
• Flights made during the Sept 23-30, 2025 handover week will count toward Canadian awards (they will not appear in the 2026 season on WeGlide, however) 

5. What Pilots Should Know 

• Upload flights to WeGlide as usual. No subscription is needed, the free version is all you need to participate. 
• Make sure to add your club(s) in your WeGlide profile, and select the club when uploading flights, or your flight will not count. 
• Free flights will always be scored, but declared tasks and classic shapes can often bring higher results in SAC-DSC. 
• WeGlide SAC-DSC leaderboard should be live on their platform before Oct 15th, in addition to the trophy leaderboard on SAC website. 
• Make sure to finish/close your task or shape no more than 3280ft (1000m) lower than your start height. 
• This season is about having fun with new types of tasks and flights, gaining experience with both systems, and seeing what works best for Canadian pilots. 

SAC-DSC 2025-26 

Pilot Quick Reference Sheet 

Season & Eligibility 

• Dates: Oct 1, 2025 Sept 30, 2026 
• Flights must be launched in Canada 
• Upload to WeGlide within 2 days of landing 

Flight Recording & Declarations 

• Use IGC-approved GNSS recorder or WeGlide-approved device (e.g. FLARM) 
• Online declarations (WeGlide) override logger declarations 
• Must declare before takeoff 
• IGC file must have a valid G-record (digital signature) 

Flight Certification 

• Flights must be engine-off start to finish 
• If engine used, scoring stops at last proven engine-off point 
• Recording interval: ≤4 seconds, gaps up to 180 seconds tolerated Submit by 12:00 noon, 2 days after landing 

Scoring Basics 

• Score = (Distance + Bonus) (Handicap 100) 
• Each flight must score ≥50 points 
• Best 5 flights count for the year 

Bonuses (apply to base distance, not stacked) 

• Declared task: +30% 
• Triangle: +40% (balanced legs, ≥28% or ≥25%/≤45% if >500 km) 
• Quadrilateral: +40% (two valid triangles, common leg) 
• Out-and-return: +30% 
• Straight line: +30% 
• Multiple circuits: +20% (max 3 laps, must be declared in advance, no free laps) 

Trophies & Awards 

• Canadair, BAIC, 200 Trophy awarded to the top Canadian pilots (best scores from either SAC-DSC or WeGlide Free) 
• General standings are on WeGlide. Trophy specific stands are tracked live on SAC website.
