Why do SAC Directors not answer questions on the Roundtable? |

There have been suggestions from some members that SAC Directors and the SAC Office should respond to questions and complaints posted in Roundtable . The Board of Directors have discussed this issue and are unanimous in the belief that the Roundtable is not a suitable means for two-way communication with either a the SAC Office, a Director or the BOD as a whole. The rationale for this position is as follows: - If it were the responsibility of a SAC Officer to respond to such messages, it would require them to read all postings. Participation in Roundtable is supposed to be voluntary - regular members are not obliged to read any, let alone all postings, and SAC Officers should have the same rights - it is not part of the job description.
- Questions posted on Roundtable usually prompt responses from other members, sometimes in support of the question, sometimes in argument and sometimes in answer. If a SAC Officer were obliged to respond, at what point in the thread should they direct their reply?
- With the delays inherent in reading, considering and responding to a posting, there is a risk that other participants to that thread will post earlier and the "Official" answer will then be subject to misinterpretation.
- Direct communication of a concern avoids these hazards and opens a simple single channel of communication that will enable a quick, clear and direct response.
- If any member has a question for any or all SAC Officers, they should mail, phone or email that question directly. The names, addresses, phone numbers and email for all SAC Officers are available under Contacts and Services - Directors and Officers, on this web site.
