The journal of the Soaring Association of Canada free flight is published six times a year and is mailed about mid-month in Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, and Dec. ARCHIVE issues All the magazine issues from the present back to 1981 are archived as .pdf files, and earlier pre-"desktop publishing" issues of the 1980s since Ursula, then I, became editor have been replicated. Many of these earlier back issues are not precisely identical in content to the original magazine because only the text was originally saved in the diskette storage era. In the replication process, some photographs or ads were no longer available, and pages had to be scanned, then text OCR'ed and placed. Though a more lengthy process than simply scanning each page, this allowed errors in the original text and poorly printed photos to be corrected, making some of these archive copies better than the original. In the future I intend to further improve the archived issues by reinserting coloured photos where still available, and a few SAC AGM inserts in issues where they are missing. SEARCH index A searchable index is being built for the complete set of free flight issues. Issues from 1968 to present are currently indexed. Earlier issues will be added steadily as work progresses. For any problems you may find or possible improvements to suggest, please contact the editor. SEARCH tips In order to minimize "split" searches, spelling has been standardized to one version as much as possible; for example, accented words in German and French have been anglicized. If searching for a person just use the surname. If searching for an aircraft, use last three characters of registration mark or try model designation with or without dashes. All accident/incident entries are listed under "Safety". If looking for info on clubs, use chief distinguishing title word(s) (ex. York) or the abbreviation of well-known clubs (ex. MSC for Montreal Soaring Council). CONTRIBUTIONS Material published in free flight is contributed by individuals or clubs for the enjoyment of Canadian soaring enthusiasts. The accuracy of the material is the responsibility of the contributor. No payment is offered for submitted material. All individuals and clubs are invited to con- tribute articles, reports, club activities, and photos of soaring interest. An e-mail in any common word processing format is welcome (preferably as a text file). All material is subject to editing to the space limitations and the quality standards of the magazine. Images may be sent as Material from free flight may be reprinted without prior permission, but SAC requests that both the magazine and the author be given acknowledgement.
