Uli Werneburg would like to let you all know that there is more than one way to launch a glider! 

The text reads:

John Nowak sends along these photos of a little horsing around at the 14th National Soaring Contest at Wichita Texas, 1937. Thta's John himself in the Schweizer 1-19, testing a little alternative tow technology. Now if someone told you about this you'd think it was just another Texas tall tale wouldn't you? Ah, but there were witnesses. At least two of them with cameras.

Sorry, but no one thought to get the names of the equine participants. Scout and Pawnee perhaps?
