SAC Seeding Procedure Each year a seeding list to rank Canadian pilots for World Gliding Championships is prepared by the Sporting Committee. The scores are calculated based on the pilots' performances in Canadian National Championships held in the previous three years. In each year a pilot's seeding score is the percentage of his points earned during the National Competition to those of the top Canadian pilot in the same class. His total seeding score is then calculated as 70 percent of his score in the most recent Canadian National contest plus 30 percent of the greater of his scores in the previous two years. For example, assuming pilots A, B and C scored the points in years 1997, 1998 and 1999 as shown in the following table, their yearly and total scores would be: 1997 1998 1999 Total |

Competition results for contests flown outside Canada may also be included. In such cases, the pilot's score is calculated by comparing his points to a fraction of the winner's points. The fraction used is 0.80 for World Gliding Contests, 0.85 for pre-World contests, and 0.90 for American national contests. Several restrictions are placed on using results from outside Canada: - The resulting score can never be greater than 100%; - If a pilot competes in several contests of the above type(s) in a single year, the one providing the greatest score will be used; - In calculating the total, the weight given to a non-Canadian contest shall never be greater than 30%. The above calculations are to be made for each class, that is, Standard and 15 m. For the World Class, it was decided that unless there were enough World Class gliders to form a separate class in the Canadian Nationals, the top pilots in the National Sports Class contest would be considered. There has been no decision on how pilots would be selected for competing in other classes, such as Club Class, World Air Games, Junior, etc.. From the scores calculated as above, the pilots with the top scores in each class will be nominated for the Canadian Team, provided that: - No more than the top five would be considered; - Only those with scores of at least 85% would be considered. |
